ExVeritas are an ATEX Notified Body, a UK Government Appointed Body and an IECEx Certification Body, CompEx Certification Provider and hold UKAS Accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025, ISO/IEC 17065 and ISO/IEC 17021:2005. ExVeritas has internationally recognised accreditation in the field of ‘Ex’ non-electrical inspection and certification which makes us the preferred ‘Certification Body’ for ATEX/IECEx rigs, skids and mobile/modular plant.
ExVeritas assessors and inspectors are verified experts in the field of Ex Inspection & Installation as required by the ATEX/DSEAR Directive for EPD Sign off. We have extensive Professional and Public Liability Insurance specifically for Explosive Atmosphere Consultancy and inspection and have an extensive and impressive track record of successfully completed projects world-wide.
Ex inspections require a method to view and analyse the inspection data to prioritise remedial actions and ensure repeating faults are prevented with root cause analysis.
When we conduct Ex or ATEX inspections we will collect data using our unique in-house developed software. The final database will be ‘free issued’ to customers or can be provided for export to other databases or as hard copy (PDF) records.
Assessment of ‘uncertified’ mechanical equipment (MIRA)
All mechanical (non-electrical) equipment used in hazardous areas must be ‘risk assessed’ if it doesn’t have appropriate certification (for example, it may have been installed before the ATEX Directive required mechanical equipment to be certified).
This Mechanical Ignition Risk Assessment (MIRA) can only be conducted by some who has suitable training and experience and must be fully documented in the site technical verification dossier (EN/IEC 60079-14).
ExVeritas are uniquely fully UKAS accredited to undertake this working being both a UKAS Body for EN/IEC60079-14 and UKAS/IECEx Certified to issue certificates against:
- IEC 60079-0: General Requirements for Ex Equipment
- ISO 80079-36: Non-electrical equipment for explosive atmospheres ‘Basic method and requirements.’
- ISO 80079-37: Non-electrical equipment for explosive atmospheres ‘Nonelectrical type of protection constructional safety, control of ignition sources and liquid immersion.’
Mechanical Ex Inspection methodologies example
ExVeritas use Zone 1/21 Certified Thermal Image Camera’s with a measurement range of -20°C to +600°C. This type of non-destructive measurement technology is unsurpassed for preventative maintenance and checking plant and equipment against EN1127-1 for ignition temperature detection and detecting failures ‘before they happen’ (constructional safety)
ExVeritas can also advise on control of ignition (Concept ‘b’ under Ex h) where uncertified mechanical equipment needs to be protected by the addition of safety instrumented systems (SIS) and appropriate Safety Integrity Levels (SIL) if necessary.
