The new CompEx Ex09-Ex10 Water Utilities qualification has been recently re developed by CompEx with an industry wide working group. Uniquely this course covers ‘gas and dust’ in a compact 1-week course (with supplied e-learning prior to attendance). Exercises and examples in this course cover the unique nature of water utilities.

 

Who is this qualification for

The qualification is for electrical and instrument operatives working in water supply, wastewater and water treatment sectors where gas, vapours and hazardous dust can potentially create a hazardous environment. This qualification is suitable for workers who operate in the water utilities industry, particularly in intake and storage areas of wastewater treatment plants, wastewater pumping stations, wet wells and gravity fed sewers where there is a risk of explosion. The practical assessments cover the installation and inspection of Ex equipment in hazardous gas, vapour and dust zones and an underpinning knowledge exam.

  • General principles, sources of ignition and apparatus protection
  • Standards, Certification and Ex Marking
  • Protection Concepts used in  for gas and dust
  • Area Classification of gas and dust with examples of water utilities classification
  • Combined (hybrid) methods of protection in gas and dust zones
  • Wiring systems, enclosure entries, cable glanding and earthing to IEC/BS EN60079-14 for gas and dust
  • Inspection and maintenance to BS EN 60079-17 of gas and dust equipment
  • Induction to competence validation testing
  • Permit to work system and safe isolation where requested
  • Practical examples relating to the water industry
  • Includes 2 days of written exams and practical assessment

CompEx Inspection & Installation Course Certification

CompEx National Certificate of Core Competence valid for 5-year (UKAS Accredited)

Candidates are required to supply their own PPE, i.e. coveralls, safety glasses and safety footwear. Also required is evidence of vocational qualifications as detailed in the awarding body (JTL) document JTL925. Appropriate electrical or instrumentation qualifications include proof of having completed a recognized apprenticeship, level 3 S/NVQ or equivalent.

5 days plus 4-6 hours E-learning delivered prior to course commencement.
